Yelp Adelaide’s Final Fringe Binge Guide

Goodness gracious how time does fly when you’re Fringing on! Over the past three weeks we’ve introduced you to 15 of the BEST brick and mortar Fringe venues that we Yelpers love (which you can still find here, here & here)!

But now… with only days left, it’s time to get your Final Fringe Binge game strong and Yelp Adelaide are here to help you.

LET’S. DO. THIS.

Street Theatre FestivalStreet.jpg

Where: Rundle Street & Rundle Mall   When: March 11-14

As though the city isn’t buzzing with street performers enough… the Adelaide Fringe Street Theatre Festival crams even more life into the East End of the city next weekend. What’s even better is that this baby is both free and family friendly… so you have absolutely no excuse not to get your butt to it.

9596_wine-glass_EFUL_GUIDEDeeVine Degustation

Where: DeeVine Studio  When: March 12-13

If you’re over being in the thick of the Fringe hub – and you’d prefer some wine time over family time – the DeeVine Degustation may be more your speed. Taking place in picturesque Willunga, this creative degustation event sees a marimba soloist feed your aural senses as you sample Paxton Bio-Dynamic Wines, savour nibbles from La Terre Cafe, and view photography from Jeff Wray Photography.

Adelaide Kustom Kulture Weekend10189_Kustom-Culture_EFUL_GUIDE.jpg

Where: The Highway  When: March 11-13

Pinups, kustom cars, pin-striping, hot-rods, low-riders and tattoos… oh my! In its 14th year, the Kustom Kulture Weekend has become a stalwart in The Highway‘s annual line up. Whilst all the Kustom Kulture accoutrements are amazing, what this event is at its core is a coming together of some of the best Rockabilly & Roots bands from Adelaide, Interstate and the U.S. of Ayye!

Entry is free during the day and tickets are available to purchase for the after dark action.

The Emotion of Music9851_adjusted-square_EFUL_GUIDE

Where: Sprout Cooking School & Health Studio When: Thursday March 1

Gosh… food meets music again! People are really pulling two of our favourite things together this last weekend of the Fringe. In another feast for both the ears and the bellies, Sprout Cooking School have joined forces with local Adelaide musician Christian Andrew to explore the emotional responses that people have to both music and food, and the connection that these can have to enhance both the musical and culinary experience.

Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues: Part 3

Blog Picture

My oh my, where is time going Adelaide? We are into the start of March and there is so much left to do and see. We hope that you have been making the most out of this festive season. In case you haven’t and you need help finding the best, here is the next guide to help you pick the best venues and offers of the Adelaide Fringe. With this trusty guide you’ll be able to keep your finger on that ever racing pulse.

THE GC

Why do we love this venue? German Club

Was nicht zu lieben? Beer, sausages, pretzels and men in tights playing Accordions is enough to keep us all happy! The German Club has been a old favourite of Adelaideians for many of years. What is there to do you do at the GC, well… the weekends are the best here for a few steins and attempting to copy German Folk dancing. There is live music every Friday night for you to give this a go!

The exciting thing about The GC is that in the last year it is growing and changing very rapidly. Be on the look out for a improved bar selection (*wink, wink… yes more beers) and more live entertainment.

What is the best on the menu here? Well, it does change around a bit, but we recommend ordering anything from the Wurst Menu or take on the Schweinshaxe (Crispy Pork Hock perved with mashed potato, sauerkraut, mustard and Green Salad.

Any special offers? They have the best Happy Hour on Fridays from 5:30-7:30pm! Schooners from $3, Half litre beer from $5, and Wine from $2.50. Sayyyy what??? And you don’t have to be a member to get these prices.

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? Great thing about this Venue is that it is big. Which means more space for shows! Check out the Studio, Lounge, Showroom One & Cellar

THE JADE

Why do we love this venue? The Jade

After a tough run from their previous home on Twin Street, The Jade’s following supported & helped them to re-locate to this fine Heritage Building on Flinders Street.  It took them around a year to find a new home. But, it was well worth the wait. This Venue is now like your home away from home. No matter the season, an ol’ building like this just has that comforting feeling about it.

Another exciting development for The Jade is that it is no longer just a music venue. It’s now one of our favourite places for food, craft beer and boutique wines! Thanks to Phat Buddha Rolls’ Cambodian Kitchen, they are cooking up a range of burgers to banh mi.

Any special offers? From 4-6pm Thursdays & Fridays you get $6 pint of Coopers Pale or Gin

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? From Cabaret to Children’s Theatre, The Jade has something to suit everyone this Fringe!

THE GRACE EMILY HOTEL

Why do we love this venue? The Grace

The Grace is the home of South Australian emerging artists. That little stage out back has been the home to many local and national artists. From open mic night on your Monday, to gigs on the weekends. You know that you are in for a good night at The Grace. And, it is definitely earned it’s name as the Adelaide’s “pub with a heart”.

What will you see here? A bar that looks like you have always wanted your bedroom to look like. Collections of all sorts of memorabilia, antiques and a pretty handsome deer head. One thing you have to tip your hat to, is this pub has stood strong without having to introduce gambling. It’s got a strong following, and we are sure it always will with cool tunes and drinks flowing.

Any special offers? No need for specials, the bevvys are always cheap here!

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? In true Grace fashion, it’s all about the Music! Check out who is rocking their stage this Fringe here.

PUBLISHED ARTHOUSE

Why do we love this venue? 0001

Just in case you didn’t know, this is where all the cool kids in town hang out. The Published Arthouse is well earning a reputation as being one of the hottest Venues to host events. Whether than means you have a wedding coming up, work function or a gig, you will need to wait in line to get a hold of this Venue. Golden Era Records and the Adelaide Fringe have made the Published Arthouse their home for launches.

Why is it so special? This warehouse is just so damn cool. It is the showcase of pieces from a range of world-class graffiti artists. You couldn’t get a better backdrop to your event anywhere else! When you see an event hosted here, you will know why it’s the new and upcoming place to hang out in Adelaide.

Read why Adelaide loves Published Arthouse

Any special offers? From 6-9pm you can order a Burger and Free Beer/Wine (selected beer and wine). Then, from 10pm till late it’s 2 for 1 Cocktails time!

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?

Do you love P!nk? Well check out  The P!nk Funhouse an interactive gameshow to test your knowledge of Pop!

Sip your cuppa and savour your crumpet as you enjoy the best of British talent… Cilla, Dusty, Lulu, Petula, The Spice Girls, Ms Lennox, Kate Bush, Winehouse, Adele and more at the Piano Chick does Brit Chix!

BAROSSA VALLEY BREWING

Why do we love this venue? Barossa

Our hearts were stolen as soon as we heard the words uttered… “Chocolate and Coffee Stout”. Ohhh you crafty brewed devil you!

But, it’s not only about the Stout; What impresses us about this brewery is that there is something here to suit everyone from beer, ginger to cider. And yes, you will find a drop of vino from local wineries as well. This brewhouse is all about supporting your local. They source as many ingredients as they can locally for the beer & the food.

Love a brewer who is creative, be sure to ask to try their current Seasonal brew, the Barossa Smoke. It’s bang on with a delicious Reuben Sandwich in the Beergarden. There is no better way to relax on a weekend; beer in hand, comfortable seating and a view of the park.

Read why Adelaide loves Barossa Valley Brewing

Any special offers? Barossa Brewing love Fringe that much they have created a Fringe Beer! A Hoppy, fruiting Session Ale done with all SA malts.  Getcha Fringe On!

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?

Fringe is everywhere! Any excuse to jump in your car and head to the Barossa. Is it wine or beer and then your in the clear? Or is it beer than wine and your feeling fine?  Maybe we should just settle it with a Wine vs. Beer Degustation. You will enjoy a 5 course meal paired with both beer & wine!

Or maybe you just like a bit of class with brew? Want to relax from the hustle and bustle of Mad March, check out the FREE GIG – Classic Female Blues Artists from the 1920s – A Modern Interpretation.

Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues: Part 2

Blog Picture

It’s only February and we are already in the thick of March Madness here in Radelaide. With so much happening in our fabulously festive city, we’ve decided to do what we do best and help guide you towards some of the best venues and offers of the Adelaide Fringe with our weekly “Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues” list. With this trusty guide you’ll be able to keep your finger on that ever racing pulse.

PRANCING PONY BREWERY

Prancing pony

Why do we love this venue?

No longer are the Adelaide Hills a playground for just wine tasting, berry picking, and German novelties (although all those things are fab), they also have an incredibly strong craft brew game.

Prancing Pony are our prize ponies *rolls eyes* for well rounded and full flavoured crafty brews. This may be attributed to the fresh hills air, traditional german brew skills or the genius of their head brewer, Frank. Either way, the brewshed is a brilliant spot to taste a few Prancing Pony beers paired with some regional foodie delights & a brewery tour, or to simply sit back and relax with a malty bevvie in hand.

Any special offers? Check-in on your Yelp app and receive 1 free beer with your burger!

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? Hills artist Wendy Dixon-Whiley’s exhibition of custom painted skateboards Beasts and Brews will be on show throughout the Fringe, with Wendy sitting as artist-in-residence each Saturday and Sunday afternoon 1-5pm.

BLACK DIAMOND TATTOO

Black DiamondWhy do we love this venue?

Hello, it’s both a tattoo studio AND a Fringe venue! The crew at Black Diamond Tattoo not only offer tattooing and laser removal, but they use the studio space for exhibitions on a regular basis throughout the year.

This Fringe, they are showcasing the work of 30 of SA’s finest Tattoo Artists on synthetic tattooable shaped limbs. Yep, you read that right… they actually look like real tattooed hands, arms and feet! This is something completely new to the Adelaide arts and tattoo scene, and is definitely worth checking out.

Any special offers? Check-in on your Yelp app and receive 10% off your next tattoo!

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? The Resurrected Limbs  exhibition is open each and every day until March 14.

LA BOHEME

la boheme

Why do we love this venue?

I’m not going to lie, for me it’s all about the sexy burlesque ladies who shimmy, shake, and keep folks laughing’n’lusting all year round that draws me back time and time again to La Boheme.

Aside from the gorgeous gals, as Adelaide’s Parisian Salon de Cocktail, La Boheme offers something a little bit classy and European. The rich velvet curtains, golden cornices and deep colour palate all add a little sumthin’sumthin’ to build a world for the predominantly cabaret, jazz and blues acts that grace the stages. Team these aesthetics with some of the finest cocktails in Adelaide and you’ll feel you’ve had quite the decadent night out.

Read why Adelaide loves La Boheme.

Any special offers? Head to La Boheme any night they are open throughout Fringe to get 2 for 1 Absolut cocktails between 5-7pm (excluding ticketed events).

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?  Adelaide Burlesque queen Luna Eclipse’s new project Naked Girls Reading is sure to draw a crowd, as is the rest of the diverse La Boheme program.

NEXUS ARTS

nexus venueWhy do we love this venue?

Located in the heart of the East End arts district, Nexus Arts has flourished from a multicultural artists’ collective, to a venue and community that is not only a performing arts space and gallery, but a host to artist residencies and cultural development programs throughout the year.

Nexus Arts celebrates and supports the exact cultural diversity that has shaped Adelaide into the home of the amazing festivals and foodie deliciousness we Yelp Adelaide folks live for and it is for that reason that we regard them as one of Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues!

Read why Adelaide loves Nexus Arts!

Any special offers? Head in throughout the Fringe for $20 Coopers Buckets, $20 Pimms jugs, & $5 glasses of house wine.

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?  The Nexus Arts Gala on February 25th is a fabulous way to get a taste of the Nexus Venue program.

KING’S HEAD HOTEL

Kings

Why do we love this venue?

SOUTH AUSSIE PRIDE, BABY! These guys are the first and only SA only pub… yep, all their beer, wine and food produce is from our fine festive state. Plus, they have amazing relationships with SA’s best microbreweries. So if there’s anything weird and wonderful happening in the Adelaide craft beer scene, The King’s Head is sure to have a keg of it.

Add to all that some of the most down to earth and passionate bar staff in the business and you have yourself a magical Adelaide brewskie oasis… it’s no wonder The King’s is a favourite local watering hole of those south side city dwellers.

Read why Adelaide loves The King’s Head Hotel!

Any special offers?  King’s Head Happy Hours; 5pm-6pm  Monday to Thursday and a full 4 hours of happy hour Fridays 5pm-9pm… grab your mates and head on in during these times for pints at schooner prices and $6 vino.

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? Youth theatre company Black Cat Theatre will be performing Five Kinds of Silence at The Kings from March 1st.

PRODUCERS HOTEL

The Producers

Why do we love this Venue?

The Producers Hotel has long been known to people in Adelaide as ye ol’ faithful entertainment Pub; and The Producers stay true to their reputation. This space is decked out during the Adelaide Fringe for many local artists to test out their stuff on a friendly and welcoming crowd.

Yes The Producers is a little rough around the edges, quirky and eclectic, but that is just what we call character. And we all know that it’s about the Beer Garden! When I think about The Producers, I think beer, high fives and sing alongs. Or maybe that is just me? Nonetheless, there is something special about a venue that leaves you chuckling and with a smile on your face.

ENTROPY

Entropy Instagram-017

Why do we love this Venue?

Entropy is not only where all the cool cats hang out for brekkie & lunch, it’s the kind of business you really want to support. Entropy sources its produce & products from South Australian farmers. Hell yeah! This South Aussie proud venue really believes in supporting your local. Depending on availability & season, they source 100% SA produce to stock their kitchen. This also means that their menu is ever changing and always interesting.

This venue is something special in a restored railway shed with a modern touch. This venue is perfect for intimate Fringe shows. They serve great coffee, but they also have the coolest range of beers, ciders, wines and cakes by Abbotts & Kinney too.

CROWN & SCEPTRE

Crown

Why do we love this Venue?

Established in 1857, this hotel has been a South Australian iconic pub since the early settlers. After it’s recent refurbishment, the Crown & Septre has been brought back to it’s former glory and offers a destination for the Community to enjoy great pub food and entertainment. South Aussies love a comfortable pub to relax after a hard week’s work, so the Sceptre is easily called your “other home”.

Upstairs is such a great small funky venue for the Adelaide Fringe. There is something quirky and homely about it. Great for artistic displays, comedians and musical numbers.

HAINS & CO

DSC05723

Why do we love this Venue?

With the bar scene thriving in Adelaide, Hains & Co really stands out in a crowd offering not only a love for all things gin, rum and whisky; But, also a story & connection with the history of Adelaide. The bar itself is made from wood from the Largs Bay Jetty; a memento of the owner, Marcus Motteram, favourite place to play as a child. The design aesthetics reflect Mr Motteram’s connection with his forefathers’ life on the sea and arriving to South Australia on majestic ships.

This venue boasts a large range of wine, craft beers, and spirits. Be sure to sample a cocktail or two. If you are feeling peckish, we recommend you try their cheese platters and house-made sausage rolls.  For the very first time Hains & Co will be opening upstairs as a very special Fringe venue. Don’t miss out!

THE BIBLIOTHEQUE BAR & BOOK EXCHANGE

o

Why we love this Venue:

Books and cocktails are a winning combination! What a delight and so exciting for Adelaide to have something that is designed to be interesting, relaxing and fun.

The bar is warm and welcoming, lined with green old bankers lights and a marble bench top. This bar feels classy and vintage. The cocktail menu, wines and beers are quite extensive. We recommend something to suit the scenery, a Manhattan. It was served as it should, with a maraschino cherry and good quality Bourbon.

Feeling peckish? Try a gourmet toast or platter and thank us later! The menu here is ever changing, be sure to speak to the Bartender about the special for the day.
