Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues: Part 2

Blog Picture

It’s only February and we are already in the thick of March Madness here in Radelaide. With so much happening in our fabulously festive city, we’ve decided to do what we do best and help guide you towards some of the best venues and offers of the Adelaide Fringe with our weekly “Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues” list. With this trusty guide you’ll be able to keep your finger on that ever racing pulse.

PRANCING PONY BREWERY

Prancing pony

Why do we love this venue?

No longer are the Adelaide Hills a playground for just wine tasting, berry picking, and German novelties (although all those things are fab), they also have an incredibly strong craft brew game.

Prancing Pony are our prize ponies *rolls eyes* for well rounded and full flavoured crafty brews. This may be attributed to the fresh hills air, traditional german brew skills or the genius of their head brewer, Frank. Either way, the brewshed is a brilliant spot to taste a few Prancing Pony beers paired with some regional foodie delights & a brewery tour, or to simply sit back and relax with a malty bevvie in hand.

BLACK DIAMOND TATTOO

Black DiamondWhy do we love this venue?

Hello, it’s both a tattoo studio AND a Fringe venue! The crew at Black Diamond Tattoo not only offer tattooing and laser removal, but they use the studio space for exhibitions on a regular basis throughout the year.

This Fringe, they are showcasing the work of 30 of SA’s finest Tattoo Artists on synthetic tattooable shaped limbs. Yep, you read that right… they actually look like real tattooed hands, arms and feet! This is something completely new to the Adelaide arts and tattoo scene, and is definitely worth checking out.

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe? The Resurrected Limbs  exhibition is open each and every day until March 14.

LA BOHEME

la boheme

Why do we love this venue?

I’m not going to lie, for me it’s all about the sexy burlesque ladies who shimmy, shake, and keep folks laughing’n’lusting all year round that draws me back time and time again to La Boheme.

Aside from the gorgeous gals, as Adelaide’s Parisian Salon de Cocktail, La Boheme offers something a little bit classy and European. The rich velvet curtains, golden cornices and deep colour palate all add a little sumthin’sumthin’ to build a world for the predominantly cabaret, jazz and blues acts that grace the stages. Team these aesthetics with some of the finest cocktails in Adelaide and you’ll feel you’ve had quite the decadent night out.

Any special offers? Head to La Boheme any night they are open throughout Fringe to get 2 for 1 Absolut cocktails between 5-7pm (excluding ticketed events).

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?  Adelaide Burlesque queen Luna Eclipse’s new project Naked Girls Reading is sure to draw a crowd, as is the rest of the diverse La Boheme program.

NEXUS ARTS

nexus venueWhy do we love this venue?

Located in the heart of the East End arts district, Nexus Arts has flourished from a multicultural artists’ collective, to a venue and community that is not only a performing arts space and gallery, but a host to artist residencies and cultural development programs throughout the year.

Nexus Arts celebrates and supports the exact cultural diversity that has shaped Adelaide into the home of the amazing festivals and foodie deliciousness we Yelp Adelaide folks live for and it is for that reason that we regard them as one of Adelaide’s Best Fringe Venues!

Any special offers? Head in throughout the Fringe for $20 Coopers Buckets, $20 Pimms jugs, & $5 glasses of house wine.

What can you see here during the Adelaide Fringe?  The Nexus Arts Gala on February 25th is a fabulous way to get a taste of the Nexus Venue program.

KING’S HEAD HOTEL

Kings

Why do we love this venue?

SOUTH AUSSIE PRIDE, BABY! These guys are the first and only SA only pub… yep, all their beer, wine and food produce is from our fine festive state. Plus, they have amazing relationships with SA’s best microbreweries. So if there’s anything weird and wonderful happening in the Adelaide craft beer scene, The King’s Head is sure to have a keg of it.

Add to all that some of the most down to earth and passionate bar staff in the business and you have yourself a magical Adelaide brewskie oasis… it’s no wonder The King’s is a favourite local watering hole of those south side city dwellers.

Any special offers?  King’s Head Happy Hours; 5pm-6pm  Monday to Thursday and a full 4 hours of happy hour Fridays 5pm-9pm… grab your mates and head on in during these times for pints at schooner prices and $6 vino.

PRODUCERS HOTEL

The Producers

Why do we love this Venue?

The Producers Hotel has long been known to people in Adelaide as ye ol’ faithful entertainment Pub; and The Producers stay true to their reputation. This space is decked out during the Adelaide Fringe for many local artists to test out their stuff on a friendly and welcoming crowd.

Yes The Producers is a little rough around the edges, quirky and eclectic, but that is just what we call character. And we all know that it’s about the Beer Garden! When I think about The Producers, I think beer, high fives and sing alongs. Or maybe that is just me? Nonetheless, there is something special about a venue that leaves you chuckling and with a smile on your face.

ENTROPY

Why do we love this Venue?

Entropy is not only where all the cool cats hang out for brekkie & lunch, it’s the kind of business you really want to support. Entropy sources its produce & products from South Australian farmers. Hell yeah! This South Aussie proud venue really believes in supporting your local. Depending on availability & season, they source 100% SA produce to stock their kitchen. This also means that their menu is ever changing and always interesting.

This venue is something special in a restored railway shed with a modern touch. This venue is perfect for intimate Fringe shows. They serve great coffee, but they also have the coolest range of beers, ciders, wines and cakes by Abbotts & Kinney too.

CROWN & SCEPTRE

Crown

Why do we love this Venue?

Established in 1857, this hotel has been a South Australian iconic pub since the early settlers. After it’s recent refurbishment, the Crown & Septre has been brought back to it’s former glory and offers a destination for the Community to enjoy great pub food and entertainment. South Aussies love a comfortable pub to relax after a hard week’s work, so the Sceptre is easily called your “other home”.

Upstairs is such a great small funky venue for the Adelaide Fringe. There is something quirky and homely about it. Great for artistic displays, comedians and musical numbers.

HAINS & CO

DSC05723

Why do we love this Venue?

With the bar scene thriving in Adelaide, Hains & Co really stands out in a crowd offering not only a love for all things gin, rum and whisky; But, also a story & connection with the history of Adelaide. The bar itself is made from wood from the Largs Bay Jetty; a memento of the owner, Marcus Motteram, favourite place to play as a child. The design aesthetics reflect Mr Motteram’s connection with his forefathers’ life on the sea and arriving to South Australia on majestic ships.

This venue boasts a large range of wine, craft beers, and spirits. Be sure to sample a cocktail or two. If you are feeling peckish, we recommend you try their cheese platters and house-made sausage rolls.  For the very first time Hains & Co will be opening upstairs as a very special Fringe venue. Don’t miss out!

Read why Adelaide loves Hains & Co! , Any Special offers? Speak to the barkeep about the on-tap Cocktail of the month, it’s always great value!

THE BIBLIOTHEQUE BAR & BOOK EXCHANGE

o

Why we love this Venue:

Books and cocktails are a winning combination! What a delight and so exciting for Adelaide to have something that is designed to be interesting, relaxing and fun.

The bar is warm and welcoming, lined with green old bankers lights and a marble bench top. This bar feels classy and vintage. The cocktail menu, wines and beers are quite extensive. We recommend something to suit the scenery, a Manhattan. It was served as it should, with a maraschino cherry and good quality Bourbon.

Feeling peckish? Try a gourmet toast or platter and thank us later! The menu here is ever changing, be sure to speak to the Bartender about the special for the day.
